FAQ
What types of conditions do you treat? The way in which we approach, assess and treat the body allows us to work with most any health concern. Our treatments are not only effective for acute conditions but particularly chronic conditions as well, as they are often resistant to standard care or undiagnosable through Western medicine. Please take advantage of our free consultation to see if we can help!
I’m interested! How does this work? Once you decide you’d like to proceed with treatment, we will schedule an appointment for your first visit and send you our intake form to complete ahead of time. In your first visit, we will do an in-depth review of your intake form, your chief complaint(s) and your life narrative as it relates to your health concerns. We will then proceed with a treatment. You can expect this first appointment to be anywhere from 90-120 minutes depending on the complexity of your concerns. Subsequent visits involve a check-in to assess where you are in your healing process, followed by a treatment. These appointments are typically 60-75 minutes. All treatments and treatment plans are customized and designed for you.
What are your treatment methods? We may use one or any combination of the following modalities in your treatments: acupuncture, fire cupping, moxibustion, thai massage herbal pistils, herbal liniments, massage and energy work.
How long will I be there? Appointments typically last 60-75 minutes and can be as long as 90-120 minutes depending on the complexity of illness and treatment plan. We can discuss this further with you once we have a better sense of the most efficient and effective plan for you. If you’re limited on time, please let us know. We can usually tailor the treatments to accommodate your schedule.
Is there anything I need to do to prepare for the treatment? Please be nourished with food and water prior to your appointment. Nourishment is critical in supporting the tissues and cells in your healing process. We recommend eating 2-3 hours before your treatment to avoid being too hungry or too full during your treatment.
What do I need to bring to an appointment? Just yourself! We have gowns available upon request.
What is your cancellation policy? Your appointment time is reserved just for you. As such, we respectfully ask that you allow more than 24 hours notice if you must reschedule or cancel an appointment. Cancellations within 24 hours of your appointment or missed appointments will be charged a cancellation fee of 100% of scheduled service.
Where do I park? There is free parking available in the rear of the building, as well as plenty of street parking in the neighborhood.
Do the treatments hurt? Everyone has different levels of sensitivity of course, but our treatments are not typically painful. We have spent a great deal of time refining our needling skills to ensure treatments are as gentle (and effective) as possible. Rest assured we will always work with you - and your body - to provide treatment at a pace that is comfortable for you. As with traditional acupuncture, there can be a slight sting or discomfort when a needle is inserted. And most patients find cupping delightful!
How will I feel after the treatment? Every treatment is unique and how you feel after each treatment will be as well. Most importantly, patients usually begin to experience an improvement in their symptoms from their first treatment. This improvement can vary from treatment to treatment, both in degree of improvement, as well as how it may look and feel. Sometimes your symptoms may seem to worsen, but this is often a step towards resolution. We will work closely with you along the way to ensure you are moving in the right direction. It is not unusual to experience soreness or tenderness around treatment areas or slight bruising around a needle insertion point. There is also the possibility of minor blisters after cupping or wet cupping. Please let us know if you are experiencing any of the above for more than 3 days following your treatment.
How many treatments will it take to resolve my issue? This depends on your case. Our treatment plans are rarely less than 4 treatments, and they are often more. We will discuss this with you once we have a better sense of your health situation and the most effective plan for you.
How is this type of treatment different from Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)? In TCM, there is generally a prescribed set of acupuncture points used to treat particular symptoms and illnesses. Once the needles are inserted, you are typically left for a period of time. Here at the Neijing Medicine Clinic we are not limited by point prescriptions or standard protocols, and we are often with you the entire treatment. We truly look at your being as a whole. We view the body as a landscape that carries all of your experiences and we look to find where they reside in your body. We assess everything from the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual to actual life events to find where and what happened that shifted you and your body from health to illness. Our approach is to find and address the origin(s) of the symptoms and challenges you may be experiencing with a unique treatment specifically designed for you, and to ultimately support your body in healing itself in a long-term, sustained way.
